Chucky, The Killer Doll is back on the big screen!

Chucky is back on big screen in a new film directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid).

Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry are headlining the picture, in this new take of the killer doll story. Tyler Burton Smith wrote the screenplay based on the 1988 film.

In the reboot, Plaza stars as a mother who gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith will produce under their KatzSmith Productions banner. The duo produced in 2017 the smash hit remake of It, the highest grossing horror film of all time bringing in $700 million at the global box office. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson will executive produce.

In the original Child’s Play movie series created by Don Mancini, Brad Dourif played a serial killer who used voodoo to place his spirit in a Doll, which would become the Chucky we all know.

Mancini and producer David Kirschner are currently working on making more Child’s Play movies, as well as a TV series, with Dourif still voicing Chucky.

The film directed by Lars Klevberg will not be related to original films, being a new and frightening approach of Chucky's story. This time, Chucky is said to be a technologically advanced smart toy whose AI is programmed to have no limitations to learning or violence.

Child's Play will be released in US cinemas on June 21, 2019, in Hungary on June 27, and in Romania on July 5.
