When the world is on fire, who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice? Sacrifice hits cinemas on September 4

An impossible plan. Everything at stake. And a sacrifice that could change it all. On September 4, 2026, adrenaline hits the big screen as Sacrifice arrives in Romanian cinemas, delivering an original and explosive action experience backed by an exceptional international cast.

Directed by Romain Gavras, the film stars Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich and Salma Hayek in a high-stakes story of power, revenge, ambition and impossible choices with devastating consequences.

In a world where nothing is quite what it seems, the paths of characters caught between power and vulnerability collide in a confrontation where every decision comes at a price. As the stakes rise, alliances begin to crumble and danger closes in, one question remains: how much are you willing to lose for what you believe is worth saving?

With a striking visual style and a story driven by tension and conflict, Sacrifice offers a fresh take on the action genre, blending adrenaline with drama and dark humor.

The film brings together a remarkable ensemble of international stars under the bold visual direction of Romain Gavras, creating a cinematic experience unlike anything else currently on the big screen.

Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich and Salma Hayek form a powerhouse cast, turning every confrontation into a potentially unforgettable moment. In Sacrifice, no one is truly safe, and the line between hero, victim and adversary becomes increasingly difficult to define.

Sacrifice premieres in Romanian cinemas on September 4, 2026.

Some battles demand courage. Others demand sacrifice. What would you be willing to sacrifice?

Sacrifice at TIFF 2025: Critics praise Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy performances

Sacrifice has gained much traction following its sold-out World Premiere at TIFF!

Thought-provoking, visually arresting, and powered by a kinetic original script co-written with Will Arbery (Succession), Romain Gavras’ English-language debut has proved to be a unique standout at this year's festival.

During a star-studded charity gala brimming with celebrities, billionaires and empty speeches, a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis (Chris Evans) is taken hostage by a radical warrior (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her devoted followers. As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur.

Cast: Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Vincent Cassel, Ambika Mod, Sam Richardson, Jonatan “Yung Lean” Leandoer, Jade Croot, Miriam Silverman, Charli XCX with John Malkovich and Salma Hayek Pinault.

Take a read through the press so far:

"Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance as Joan is magnetic" The Film Stage.

"[Gavras] has a keen, bold talent for marrying startling images with enveloping sound. Sacrifice often looks like a zillion bucks" The Hollywood Reporter.

"Sacrifice is full of gorgeous imagery, from the steaming volcano to the areas this group takes their hostages to on their journey, as Gavras’ directing reminds one of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Andrei Tarkovsky." Collider.

"Evans delivers… with profound sincerity, putting together one of his strongest and most honest performances." Awards Watch
"Romain Gavras has a great eye, ensuring Sacrifice is never not a pleasure to look at."
