Heretic’s Hugh Grant nominated for Best Actor at Golden Globes 2024

Hugh Grant was nominated at Golden Globes 2024 for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for his starring performance in Heretic, and he posted his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter).

"Massive thanks to the Golden Globes for so warmly welcoming a blatant gate crasher. Also to Scott Beck and Bryan Woods for spotting my need to kill, and to A24 for sponsoring it." Grant wrote.

Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (who wrote A Quiet Place and directed last year's 65), Heretic stars Grant as Mr. Reed, a man who is visited by two Mormon missionaries played by Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher. Although he seems nice and genial at first, he eventually reveals himself to be a sadistic atheist willing to go to great lengths to convince the women that God isn't real.

Heretic marks Grant's seventh nomination at the Golden Globes. He won his first for 1994's Four Weddings and a Funeral, and he was most recently nominated for a lead role in the 2020 HBO series The Undoing.

Heretic is now playing in cinemas.

Borderlands is now in cinemas!

Borderlands - one of the most anticipated films of the summer is in cinemas today!

Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, this action-adventure-comedy follows Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, who reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B.

She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits ― Roland (Kevin Hart), once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Dr. Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistently wiseass robot.

These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands ― but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

Long before producing the film, Ari Arad, whose credits include the recent hit Uncharted, had enjoyed playing the game upon which it’s based, calling it “cool and weird, and one of the more exciting and emotional games I’ve experienced. The game is action-packed but there’s a sweetness to it, which I thought was unique.”

Another key figure in Tiny Tina’s life is her stalwart, hulking, and loyal bodyguard Krieg. “It’s a bizarre relationship,” says Roth, “because both Tiny Tina and Krieg have been discarded. They are two misfits who take care of one another; there’s love and acceptance between them, in a big brother-little sister type way. Tiny Tina can take care of Krieg when he needs it, and he can and will kill anyone to protect her. The film is very much about the family you choose; within that family you learn to sacrifice and that’s when you are at your strongest.”

“The difference between Krieg and all the other Psychos is the soft spot in his heart he has for Tiny Tina,” says Florian Munteanu, who is best known for portraying fearsome boxer Viktor Drago in Creed II and Creed III.

According to Roth, it’s a perfect fit between actor and role.Florian grounds Krieg in a way I didn’t know was possible. He brings real humanity and multiple layers to a character that on the surface seems totally insane and savage.”

Principal photography took place in Budapest, where the BORDERLANDS art direction teams, led by production designer Andrew Menzies, constructed Pandora from Hungary’s unique geological features and from inside Budapest’s formidable sound stages.

There, they brought to life Pandora’s mix of the wild American West, humor, and an epic fantasy space adventure.

Budapest provided impressive otherworldly locations, heightened by director of photography Rogier Stoffers’s striking cinematography, including rock quarries, mines, and underground tunnels.

Production also took over the whole of Stern Studios. “I love that we got to invent everything,” comments Roth. “It’s a lawless world, where everyone is figuring out how to just survive.”

Award-winning filmmaker Eli Roth made his directorial debut in 2002 with the hugely successful film Cabin Fever, and his follow-up titles – Hostel, Hostel Part II, Knock Knock, and Death Wish – have earned him critical praise and a reputation as a true innovator in the horror space.

Prorom distributes Borderlands in Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria.

Richard Linklater's Hit Man will open the 2024 American Independent Film Festival

The American Independent Film Festival (AIFF) returns for the 8th edition with the latest and most appreciated independent productions made in the USA, which will be able to be seen between June 7 and 13 in Bucharest and, for the first time ever, in the magical setting of Bran Castle, on June 7 and 8.

For the first time in the history of the festival and Bran Castle, AIFF 8 organizes special screenings on June 7 and 8, in the castle courtyard.
The proposal of AIFF 8 is to reconnect the Romanian public, but also potential foreign tourists, with the beauty of the open-air cinema, accentuated by the unique setting and the breathtaking atmosphere of one of the most beautiful places in Romania.

"AIFF 8 continues its mission to offer the Romanian public films that are more than just entertainment, to mediate the dialogue of the public with the filmmakers, to cultivate the experience of watching cinema films as a social event, in the middle of the community and to use the cinema as an opportunity to connect and communicate with others, including by popularizing some social causes to which the festival donates, as every year, the proceeds from ticket sales.", says Cristian Mungiu, director of AIFF.

The Prorom title Hit Man (directed by Richard Linklater) will open the festival, on Friday, June 07, both at Cinema Elvire Popesco in Bucharest and outdoors, in the courtyard of Bran Castle.

Richard Linklater, one of the most important contemporary American directors is known to the public, among others, for the series Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013) and for the ambitious film project Boyhood (2014) filmed throughout 12 years.

Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater's sunlit neo-noir stars Glen Powell as strait-laced professor Gary Johnson, who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department.

Preternaturally gifted at inhabiting different guises and personalities to catch hapless people hoping to bump off their enemies, Gary descends into morally dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to one of those potential criminals, a beautiful young woman named Madison (Adria Arjona).

As Madison falls for one of Gary's hit man personas -- the mysteriously sexy Ron -- their steamy affair sets off a chain reaction of play acting, deception, and escalating stakes.

Co-written by Linklater and Powell and inspired by an incredible true story, Hit Man is a smart existential comedy about identity that premiered at Venice and was selected at Sundance.

Hit Man is distributed by Prorom in Eastern Europe.
